End of summer already?

Well is it really the last week of August...sigh. Didn't you find the summer was much shorter this year? I have enjoyed a beautiful summer even though it was short. DH and I dable in antiques so we decided to take a short trip to Le Claire, Iowa; home of Antique Archeaolgy from the History Channel. Although it would have been nice to meet Mike and Frank we still really enjoyed visiting the shop and snapping a few pictures. Just to see the shop and the collectibles we watched being found on the show was exciting. We also took in a British auto show which was really nice...met a lovely fellow sporting a British hat and shirt there who posed for a photo with his lovely 1955 Triumph. We took a tour of the Mississippi River Distilling Company and were very impressed with their small town atmosphere and the fact that they bottle all their products using products from local farmeres. We couldn't resist coming back later in the evening to enjoy a tasting of their products prepared by local chef's. The Peach liqour was so devine I jsut had to purchase a bottle. We also visited the docks of the Mississippi river in nearby Davenport where we tried our luck at the Rythum City casino then took a long stroll along the boardwalk while we listened to jazz music from a nearby festival. The weather was warm, the flowers lovely and the trees were blowing in the soft breeze...what a relazing evening. We traveled a few miles out of our way to visit the small town of Winterset, Iowa where I was lucky enough to snap a few photographs of the covered bridges used in the 1982 movie, "The Bridges of Madison County" remember that wonderful romantic movie starring Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep! We stopped in the little shop by the Roseman bridge and met a few people from across the country and chatted with the hospitable owner...lovely time. And waht a surprise to find out that this small town of a whole 10 blocks is the birthplace of none other than John Wayne. In our travels we stopped at many an antique shop where we purchased a 1960's tricycle, garden pedestal and an lovely old window pane. Ahhh...a project or two for the winter months are awaiting. Well I hope the warm summer days have not yet come to an end, thanks for stopping by.
